Lady Fucking Gaga

Went to see Lady Gaga in concert yesterday.

fan-fuckin-tastic!

What a Sensation.

The show was all kinds of good and then some. And I loved every minute of it.

To show my respect, I wore a dropped-crotch one shoulder pantsuit, studded vintage leather lace up boots, a vintage leather sign belt and turquoise feather false eyelashes. Blue eyelashes make the world go round, dontcha know. And shit yes, Miss Gaga looked fierce the entire way through. Costume-changes and all!

The highlight? Her in stilletoed boots, crouching on a piano stool with one stilleto on the piano keys and playing and singing like a mofo. Sweeet.

Bunny Got Nailed

I saw a wonderful oversize knit with bunny face (ears and all!) by Fairground in a magazine a little while back, and it was instant love. Unfortunately it was not instant gratification as I trawled the internet far and wide [(dot)com, (dot)co(dot)uk, etc] trying to hunt down what I believe to be the most effing fabulously fantastic knit in all of history. I even tried calling the number listed in the magazine to hunt down the cape/wrap, with no luck. It was the wrong number and the American girl on the phone had no clue as to why I was hunting down a 'bunny'!

But no fear, I wasn't giving up that easily. I resolved to head out to some funkier stores to see if they stocked Fairground and to keep calling until I found Fairground's damn number. Obsessive much?

So today, on the one day that I was actually too busy to think about the 'Bunny Got Nailed' wrap by Fairground, I actually stumbled upon it. Accidentally. Fortune? Coincidence? Luck? Whatever it is, I'm ecstatic! Look forward to seeing this baby in a post coming to you soonest.

Another thing to note? Seek out Fairground. You WILL be impressed.

The circus comes to town

You may have noticed (or not) my absence from the world wide web. Brought on by using our bandwidth allowance way too quickly. Time to upgrade, me thinks. I feel slightly out of it but have been suitably distracted by a crazy busy workload (yes, I have brought work home this weekend), birthday shenanigans and catching up with friends....

....so I shall have to pick up the pace and get right back into the swing of things. And remember to take some outfit snaps. I'm also in the process of choosing a new digital SLR camera (preferably Canon) courtesy of a massive collaborative birthday present from family and friends, so any suggestions/recommendations would be highly appreciated.

In the meanwhile here are some snaps from the Circus themed party I threw to celebrate my birthday. Good times. The bunny won the "best outfit" prize. Granted. And the feather falsies were bought about 6 months ago and I planned to add them to the outfit regardless. Mission accomplished.

We're in trouble, trouble...

Spent the weekend....on a double date that Stuart and I set up for friends. Buying craft items to make a dead parrot outfit (a la the Monty Python dead parrot sketch). Making aforementioned outfit. Kickboxing in the park. Coffee bean tasting and evaluating. Taking Dad to brunch for Fathers Day. Wearing a caffeine overdose for a fair while. Catalogueing more of what I want to sell.

Thought I'd share the individual pictures of my sister, Stuart and myself the night of our friend's 80s birthday party. I'm very attracted to Stuart in that getup. Is that wierd of me? Probably. Oh well.

Stuart and I have been invited to yet another dress-up party, for which the theme is "Monty Python". Mwah hah hah....should I go as the dead parrot?

I think it's important to like the ring you'll wear for the rest of your life, and Abazias have a gorgeous selection.....the most important thing is the symbolism of the ring, not the size of it! xxx Anika

Welcome to the jungle...

...is a Guns'n'Roses tune off their album Appetite for Destruction. Why am I telling you this? One of my friends recently turned 27, and to celebrate her birthday she decided to have an 80s dress-up karaoke party at this crazy-awesome karaoke bar we know (Dreamland) where drinks, a Chinese buffet and karaoke can be enjoyed for the sweet sweet price of $30. I decided to take inspiration from Axl Rose, front man for Guns'n'Roses....minus the bandana. Can't be mussing up the hair you know ;)

It was a crazy affair, with everyone turning up in the best 80s outfits. There was the aerobics chick, the neon colours outfit, the ridiculous moustache and mullet wig, the 80s rockstar (complete with shoulder padded leather jacket and hi-tops), an American werewolf in London and a few more crazy outfits.

We took some crazy pics which I look forward to seeing. I only took a few pics myself.

The most embarassing thing about my outfit was the fact that the only thing I had to purchase specially for the party was the aviator sunglasses. Heh.

The rest of the weekend was spent shopping for birthday presents and cake and generally chilling out. Perfect. I also contemplated distressing the skinny jeans in these pics, but was too lazy to actually deliver.

texturise this, you know you want to

Recently, texture has been my obsession. More precisely, playing with different textures to create the perfect 'imperfect look'. So when the chance came to wear my no.1 love (aka the feather stole), I grabbed it and ran.

Worn with a sequin jacket (thank you once again, Marcella :), texturised peep toe heels and light wash skinny jeans. Because fashion is meant to be fun.

Genius

How does this Shu Uemura ad make you feel?

I'm obsessed with anything and everthing feathered and am a seagull when it comes to feathered fake eyelashes, feathered headpieces, feathered stoles, feathered tops even (don't believe me? You should see my ebay record).

So when I saw this genius ad, I drooled a little bit more than required or even expected. Keeping a personal pack of tissues on you has never been so crucial!

I want to do my eyes like this....don't know where I'd go dressed like this but you better believe I'd find somewhere to go! I've scared the fine folk of Perth with feathers and leather, this shouldn't be too much of a worry :)

Devil's Lair

I go through phases of adoration of bright red lipstick.

I'm currently in a bright red lips phase, so all outfits are topped up with a swipe of L'oreal 'Garnet Creme' (shade 460 if we're going to be technical about it).

I actually put MAC's bright red matte lipstick (I forget the shade name) on my imaginary shopping list on Friday but walked straight past Myers without a second thought. Ah well, it'll just have to be acquired on Tuesday.

On Friday, Stuart invited me over for dinner (delicious cream cheese stuffed mushrooms topped with cherry tomatoes and a steak and sweet potato main course....drooool) followed by a movie at the cinema next to his place.

We watched Samson and Delilah, Warwick Thornton's first feature film. The film is exquisite, hauntingly so.....there's hardly any dialogue and the movie bears no resemblence to the biblical story yet leaves a lasting impression. Its about two teenagers in a remote Indigenous community, and about love in the face of adversity. The movie is understatedly fantastic. There isn't a theme of sentimentality or even a forced story line, instead the actors are mind-blowingly good. Samson is a petrol-sniffing good-for-nothing, whilst Delilah is surprisingly self-contained and looks after her grandmother in the remote community. When her grandmother dies, they both head off to Alice Springs where they live on the fringe of the community (aka under a bridge with a homeless guy), unable to get life together.

I was amazed at the emotions delivered by the young actors, and more so how the film is so well-made...its a tough film about love, and as Margaret and David at the Movies say, "It's a knockout". It's so sad but ends on such a high note, its a completely unexpected relative happy ending.

I urge the Aussies out there to watch this beauty of a film, its one of those that grabs at your heart, doesn't preach and will make you laugh, be appalled and aghast all in one sitting. Just gorgeous, in a wonderfully understated way.
