In flashes, drifting by...

My sister, Stuart and myself have spent the weekend thus far shopping for 'bathers' (swimming costumes), watching episodes from True Blood (season 1), putting up the Christmas tree, imbibing caffeine at our favourite beach-side haunt, and generally lazing around. All in 39 degree Celcius weather. Mmmm. Thats 102.2 degrees Fahrenheit for the Americans....

Because its been so hot of late and I cannot be arsed to document outfits, I decided to document instead a random collection of my (relatively) recent shoe acquisitions, other bits and bobs, as well as the ridiculous number of rings I own. Gahhh. Oh well, accessories do maketh the outfit. Start with basics in muted, neutral colours and top-up with accessories and you're good to go!

What are you going to be asking for this Christmas?

on these balmy spring nights....

We welcomed spring with a 'moderate' 37 degrees on Saturday. Followed by a hot, balmy night. A perfect night to sit with open doors and in the company of good friends, all whilst nursing cold crisp beers (a Guinness on my part). We took some photos out with friends but most turned out terrible, so Stuart offered to take these once we got back home.....and I accepted (anything to capture the Camilla and Marc hotness).

I should have stood next to Stuart in these pics...the boots take me up to 6 foot :)

ASOS comes through again. Ordered this short sleeved top/jacket from the website as well as these sleek shiny leggings. These will have to make do until I can source a decent PVC pair. Any ideas of where to look (without having to pay a ridic amount cough*leschiffoniers*cough)?

Love how quickly ASOS ships. Great customer service, which only tempts me to buy more. Badddd. Speaking of being tempted, took this photo when we visited Freo on Saturday for coffee and took a wander through the markets. I'm thinking of going back to buy Stu those heart sunnies. How silly does he look, haha ;)
(it'll also validate our half hour loitering at the sunnies stand and laughing at various ridiculous sunnies whilst the stall owner gave us dirty looks. Whoops.)

A is for Abazias

A few weeks back, one of Stuart’s best friends got married. It was a wonderful ceremony, and afterwards we stood around discussing how everyone we knew was either getting engaged or getting married and what kind of ceremonies we wanted for our weddings (fulfilling that stereotype of girls fantasizing about their wedding). Stuart and I were at our local shopping centre a few days later with my younger sister when she walked into a jewellery store that was having a massive sale.

“Ah look, Stuart, maybe you should just buy a ring now…..you could get a decent one for $300 at this price” I stated.

My sister and Stuart looked stunned.

Stuart countered that offer with, “I was planning to spend a lot more on a ring, woman”, and my sister shook her head and stated that whilst this shop did nice jewellery, you needed a ‘special’ wedding ring that stood the test of time.

It got me thinking…..she’s correct you know. If I have to wear that one ring for the rest of my life I want something elegant and beautiful, something that I can look at always and admire, and definitely something that represents the commitment.

I have to admit that the above coupled with Stuart and me talking about when we’d get married led to more investigation into the matter. I’ll further cement that stereotype (and that’s saying something, considering how non-girly I am) and admit that I want a gorgeous diamond ring.

Enter Abazias Diamonds. Diamonds……drool. Yes when I was a little girl, I imagined a big diamond ring on my finger when I got married. I haven’t thought about it in a long while (20 years, give or take) but now prompted to do so, I would love a classic solitaire-set white gold diamond ring. Fussy? No, I don’t think so; I just know what I like. And I love that Abazias specializes in letting you design your ring. Yes, you can customise your engagement ring. Yes, there’s a vast range of diamonds and settings to fit your price. Yes, they are reasonably priced (hey, I was joking when I said $300!!). More importantly, for the not-so-knowledgeable (read: me :) there’s valuable information on how to pick that special ring.

Final yes? The fact that they also sell some pretty awesome watches. I don’t know if you guys know, but I am a certified watch aficionado. Reasonable oversized men’s watches? I’m sold.

love this watch…..on sale too for $55.00!

Weekend shenanigans (and more snoodisms)

(long post, you have been warned)

Thanks for all the feedback on the last post. I got quite a few new book recommendations and will definitely be looking into them. I also got a few recommendations that are favourites of mine but that I had completely forgotten as I listed books off the top of my head (so thank you once again :). Also, I'm humbled by all your comments on my photography. I've been an avid photography enthusiast for ages and it's a passive hobby of mine. I'm saving money for a Canon Rebel XTI but thus far have relied on good light and just what feels right. I cannot wait to invest in a decent camera and take my hobby to new obsessive limits (probably :)

Antoine of florilège d'esthète meanwhile informed me that he had forwarded the following blog award on to me. Antoine's blog is a delight and his posts are intelligent and a must-read. Thank you Antoine, it is a pleasure to be awarded this :)

This past weekend comprised of gift shopping, coffee drinking, Gracie's birthday celebrations, Ellie's and my discussions about shoes, shopping and other randomness, overdosing on delicious punch and the inevitable tipsy-ness (although Charlie was more drunk than the rest of us....were you drinking beforehand??!!), catching up with friends I hadn't seen in a while and meeting new ones, unveiling the snood and convincing Charlie and my mother that they needed one like they needed air, staging a photoshoot featuring Stuart (photos to come) and more caffeine intake. Fun times.

Studding, studding, studding...

I decided to wear my not-yet-completed DIY project, the boots, out a few days back. While studding, I had to chop the fringe from the front of the boots so that the studs were visible. I like it so far but am not sure whether to keep going or stop as currently is. I've got the thumbs up on the studding (and the 'yeah, stop studding') from my sister and Stuart. What do you guys think? Does it need more studs? Should I go stud crazy and do the whole front of the boots?

In other news, the coffee shop I visit more often than what one would call 'regularly' now has a fantastic musician who puts on a one-man show every Wednesday evening for a couple of hours (he sings and plays the guitar). Will just have to chill out at Tiger Tiger on Wednesdays after work from now on, obviously :) The guy is a brilliant muso; he has a low, husky voice and is fantastic on the guitar.

How's everyone's week going?

I just recently decided to put more effort into my blog/follow other blogs (I used to just know the ones I checked and would pull up the sites each time, now I can link direct :)/have a 'follow me' segment and potentially, but not definitely, get into bloglovin'. Hmmm, we'll just have to see. Follow me? Also, let me know if you would like to exchange links :)

to a t....

...my version of casual.

Probably the most comfortable combination of items in my wardrobe. The soft tee, the jeans and the biker-esque boots from ASOS. Winner combo. Add a leather jacket, perfectly worn in, and I'm good to go. Particularly with the nasty weather we've been having of late.

I suppose winter had to get here at some stage.

I've been talking about wolf tee for a while now but have only seen over-glammed up versions everywhere. I was looking for a simplified print tee version. I finally found it. In the mens section of Cotton On, no less :)

Eye of the tiger

I thrifted a pair of knee-high grunge combat boots a little while ago and have been waiting for a cold enough day to wear them.

Sunday was it.

I opted for comfort for my coffee date with Stuart, where we spent the better part of an hour debating human right to sex-change operations and whether, hypothetically speaking, if you had the choice you would re-configure your brain to permit you to act the sex you are or have a sex-change operation i.e. 'mind over body' or 'body over mind'.

We both picked 'body over mind' i.e. having the sex-change operation if we had to pick one. On the basis that it is a human right to be able to have a prerogative with regards to what you choose to believe/support/wear and how you feel as an individual being, regardless of whether or not it fits into that neat "normal" category. We also discussed the involvement of governments in making legal standing orders about sex-change operations or (once again, hypothetically speaking) a "brain" operation, which led to the whole "invasion of human rights in the grossest way" conversation.

Very interesting topic in my opinion.

What do you guys think???
